Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about VeloStatus.

General
VeloStatus is a mobile app for cyclists that lets you track your bikes, components, maintenance, mileage and expenses — all in one place. It works completely offline and doesn't require an account.
Yes! The free version lets you manage up to 2 bikes and 3 accessories with full maintenance tracking, statistics, PDF reports and backup. Premium unlocks up to 10 bikes, 20 accessories, push notifications, custom reminders and expense analysis.
VeloStatus is available for Android and iOS (coming soon on App Store). It supports English, Italian, Spanish and French.
No. VeloStatus works 100% offline. Your data stays on your device. No account, no cloud, no tracking. The only internet access is for checking app updates and processing Premium purchases.
Bikes & Components
VeloStatus supports 28 bike types including Road, MTB, Gravel, City, E-Bike, Track, Cyclocross, Tandem and more. Each type has specific maintenance thresholds optimized for its typical usage.
Both! When adding a bike you can set the current mileage, purchase date and cost. For each component you can set the install date and km — so VeloStatus calculates wear correctly even if you bought the bike second-hand with thousands of km already on it. Just enter the best estimates you have and the maintenance thresholds will adapt.
Each component has default wear thresholds based on your bike type (time and km). VeloStatus shows a color-coded status: green (OK), orange (check soon) and red (action needed). You can log replacements and services, and the history is saved with date, cost and notes.
Yes. While VeloStatus provides smart defaults for 33 component types across all bike categories, you can manually adjust km and time thresholds for each component to match your riding style and conditions.
"Replace" means you installed a new part — it resets all wear counters. "Service" means you performed maintenance (cleaning, adjusting, lubrication) — it resets the timer but the component is the same. Both are saved in the component's history with cost and notes.
Retire hides the item (bike, component or accessory) but keeps all costs in your expense analysis — because you already paid for it. A retired bike still counts toward your free limit. Delete permanently removes the item and all its costs. Both actions are available from the menu (3 dots) in the top bar.
Maintenance & Wear
Each component has two thresholds: kilometers and time. VeloStatus checks both and uses whichever is worse. For example, if your chain is at 80% km but only 40% time, it shows 80%. This way, nothing slips through.
Green = good (under 60% of its life). Orange = check soon (60–99%). Red = action needed (past 100%). The bar fills up as wear increases.
For a new bike, all components start from zero automatically. For a used bike, VeloStatus asks about each component: is it original (starts from purchase date), do you know the install date (you enter it), or you don't remember (the app estimates halfway through its life — a reasonable starting point you can correct later).
Time also counts. Some materials degrade even when sitting still — tubeless sealant dries out, brake fluid absorbs moisture. If enough months have passed, VeloStatus flags it.
Default values are based on manufacturer recommendations (Shimano, SRAM, Vittoria, Schwalbe) and adjusted for each bike type. A mountain bike chain wears faster than a city bike chain because the terrain is harsher. With Premium you can customize every threshold.
You've covered a lot of km in a short time. The km counter has passed 60% of the threshold even though the time counter is still low. VeloStatus always uses the worse of the two.
Yes, just edit the component and update the installation date. The calculation will adjust automatically.
VeloStatus will use only time for wear calculation. The alerts will still work, but adding km gives you much more accurate maintenance tracking.
Data & Backup
Go to Settings and tap "Backup". VeloStatus creates a ZIP file containing all your bikes, components, accessories, mechanics, settings, photos and attachments. You can share it via email, cloud storage or any app. Backup is free for all users.
Yes. Create a backup on your old phone, transfer the ZIP file to your new phone, then open VeloStatus and restore from Settings. All data, photos and settings will be recovered. Note: restoring more than 2 bikes requires Premium.
Yes. From Settings > Data & Backup you can generate a professional PDF report for any bike, with all components, maintenance status, history and photos. The report is useful when selling a bike or visiting your mechanic.
Premium
Premium is a one-time lifetime purchase that unlocks: up to 10 bikes and 20 accessories, push notifications for maintenance alerts, custom reminders for bikes and gear, expense analysis with charts and cost/km, and CSV export.
No. Premium is a one-time purchase — you pay once and it's yours forever. No subscriptions, no recurring charges.
Accessories & Mechanics
Accessories are cycling gear not tied to a specific bike: helmets, shoes, glasses, gloves, bike computers, heart rate monitors, lights, locks, bags, pumps, tools, car racks, trainers and more. You can track brand, cost, purchase date and set custom reminders.
Yes. The Mechanics section lets you save your trusted mechanics with name, phone, email, address and notes. You can mark a favorite and quickly call or email them from the app.
